The Rs3,000-crore project being built in partnership with IL&FS, and has principle investors like Kotak Mahindra, Chest Core, Punj Lyod, and Fairwood Associates. IL&FS had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Dalian, China, attracting investment to the tune of Rs5,000 crore in Gujarat.
In its first phase to be complete by 2010, GIFT will be developed on a land area of 500 acres, with a built-up area potential of up to 75 million sq. ft. The next phase will see the development of townships around the city. IL&FS has secured an advance booking for six million square feet in GIFT, near Gandhinagar.
Mr Yao Wen Lin, board chairman of ECADI, committed "to design GIFT to a standard, that would be superior to one in Shanghai, China". ECADI has planned and designed nearly three-quarters of modern Shanghai.
